Hi, I'm Skylar.

An engineering student with a passion for Cold War history, electronics, amateur radio, outdoorsmanship, and a whole lotta other stuff.

A little about me.

Who?

My name is Skylar Culek (NQ9Z), an undergraduate student at the University of Wisconsin - Madison studying Civil Engineering. At the university, I lead the Badger Amateur Radio Society (W9YT), which serves as my primary special interest and passtime through the year. As you might be able to tell from the site name, I have quite a large interest in amateur radio, operating my own station at home (an IC-756) or on the go (an X6100) whenever I get the chance. Outside of radio, I spend quite some time working in and around construction (my day job is in project management and construction engineering for a heavy civil company) with an emphasis on concrete paving, although I do have specific interests and experience in surveying, concrete removals, and excavation/earthworks.

One other aspect of my life this site will capture is a long-standing facination I've had with Cold War electronic systems and infrastructure, of which I consider myself something of an amateur historian.

What?

  • RF systems
  • Electronics projects
  • Heavy civil construction & construction surveying
  • Cold War history
